no one alone campaign - 2024
Gratitude for being heard. Asking for real help. Mentorship turned friendship.
The question that drives almost every interaction at Atlas: Lincoln is, “What’s your story?” This simple but powerful question allows us to build trust and relationships with folks who are struggling down the road of life. These staff stories provide a glimpse into the lifechanging relationships being built at Atlas every day.
From Sonya…
One day, I received a call on our work line from a woman in desperate need of resources. She was frantic, stressed, and overwhelmed, pouring out her concerns without interruption. Suddenly, she paused and expressed her surprise, stating that I was the only person among ten she had contacted that truly listened. Others had abruptly cut her off, citing other commitments. Her gratitude for simply being heard was palpable, highlighting the profound impact of attentive listening.
From Edwin…
Alex has been struggling with a battle with alcoholism and mental health. I figured that the only way I could help this man was to be a friend to him. We sat down and had a hard talk; I told him I cared about him, and he was not helping himself if he didn't care for himself. Despite all of it, he made one of the hardest decisions of his life: he asked for real help. It was a reset for him, he went through the withdrawals, talked to a therapist, and he came out of it knowing that he wanted to fight for himself.
From Hollie…
My mentee was above and beyond awesome to talk with. Our mentorship turned friendship has tested time and come out strong. Though I miss seeing her every week to talk, the times that we do get together is that much sweeter. I know that not every mentor is like mine and my mentees, I know that my life would be very different if I hadn’t met her.
